TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - For the first time, passengers will be allowed to bring their pet on some Amtrak trains. There's a fee, and a list of restrictions. Only one pet and one pet carrier will be allowed per passenger. It'll cost $25 to bring Fido with you.
"Now that Rover can come over, we hope to see you and your pet on board," Amtrak said on it's website.
The trip can't be more than seven hours. If there's a connecting train, all travel has to be completed in that seven hours.
Passengers can bring their pets on these trains:
- Northeast Regional trains between Boston - New York - Washington - Lynchburg - Newport News - Norfolk
- Downeaster trains between Portland and Boston - North Station
- Trains 79, 80 and 90 between New York and Washington
Note: Pets will not be accepted on the New Haven to Springfield shuttles, Northeast Regional trains between New Haven and Springfield and the Vermonter Train between New Haven and St. Albans.
Pet reservations are first come, first serve. To make a reservation, call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL.
