U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed a Border Patrol agent fired his weapon across the international border near Naco, AZ on Monday, Oct. 19.
According to a news release, the agent fired at someone on the Mexico side of the border point that he believed was pointing a firearm at him while he was taking another person into custody at about 6:25 a.m.
It is unknown if anyone was injured in the incident. Mexican authorities responded to the incident scene, and CBP sent a Use of Force Incident Team.
CBP also notified the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General about the incident.
No other details about the incident were immediately available.
