Sierra Vista duo facing felony charges

SIERRA VISTA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Authorities said two Sierra Vista residents, including a convicted sex offender, are facing numerous felony drug and firearm charges.

Sgt. Mertie Stompro, spokesman for the Sierra Vista Police Department, said Chadwick Springer and Christina Rubin were arrested Sunday at a motel following an anonymous tip.

"(We) received a tip that Springer was staying at a motel (in the 1000 block of East Fry Boulevard)," Stompro said. "Springer is wanted on a felony warrant out of Cochise County for possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia."

Stompro said Springer and Rubin were found in a motel room, along with "a loaded .38 caliber handgun, approximately five grams of methamphetamine and a usable amount of marijuana."

Stompro said both Rubin and Springer are convicted felons and cannot lawfully possess firearms.

Springer, who was convicted of criminal sexual conduct in the fifth degree in connection with a 2005 incident, is facing charges of prohibited possession of a firearm, meth possession, marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to register as a sex offender.

Rubin is facing charges of prohibited possession of a firearm, meth possession, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Springer, 31, is being held on $10,000 bond while the 34-year-old Rubin was released on her own recognizance.
