TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Another hot issue on the ballot on election day was whether to ban red light traffic cameras within the city of Tucson.

According to the results that came in on Tuesday night, many voters are in favor of taking them out. 65 percent voted yes to ban the cameras and 35 percent voted no to keep them.

In August the Tucson City Council decided to put the decision before the voters. Tucson Police Department officials have said the cameras decrease accidents by 70 percent, and bring in around $2 million in revenue. Opponents say they punish drivers who miss the light by just a fraction of a second.

There is one more step before the red light cameras are taken off street corners. The City Council still needs to certify the election. The results will be official by the end of November.
