Cochise County Sheriff: Agent-involved shooting happened in NM

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Officials at the Tucson Border Patrol Public Affairs Office have confirmed that an agent was involved in a shooting incident near Douglas Monday morning.

According to a news release from the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, deputies were requested to assist the Border Patrol at 11:20 a.m. for a reported shooting incident.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said Border Patrol agents were working in a remote area east of Apache and tracking suspects that had fled from "a narcotics-laden vehicle" around 10:45 a.m.

An agent discharged his weapon during a struggle with a suspect, who was wounded. The suspect, who was not identified, was airlifted to an area hospital.
