MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - From nap hour to happy hour. One teacher is trading in GPA'S for IPA'S.
Hank Rowe, a former social studies teacher and his partner, Brian Vance will open the first craft brewery in Marana on Saturday, Feb. 20.
Rowe worked for Amphitheater Public Schools for 23 years before starting Catalina Brewing Company a year and a half ago.
The brewery is a full-flavored blend of his teaching past and cycling, his other love.
"You'll see small little touches for example the replica chalkboard. We do have a beer called teachers aid, which is an apple cinnamon Scottish ale," Rowe said.
Catalina Brewing Company is just 200 feet from The Loop located at 6918 N. Camino Martin in Marana.
"We are in discussion with Pima County to put a gate in the railing so people don't have to lift their bikes over," Rowe said. "They have been really supportive of businesses that support The Loop."
Rowe added, "What better way to celebrate their victories after a long ride!"
Catalina Brewing Company's grand opening happens on Saturday at 2 p.m., according to Rowe they will close when all the beer is gone.
Right now Tucson's brewing business is booming. In the past two years, the Old Pueblo has gone from five craft breweries to 15.
