Early morning fire kills man south of Tucson

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A 44-year-old man died in a a mobile home fire early Saturday morning, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. in the 1200 block of East Summit Street, near Old Nogales Highway, said PCSD spokesman Deputy Ryan Inglett.

When deputies arrived, they were told one of the family members was unable to get out of the residence, and they later determined it was 44-year-old Alberto Santa Cruz, Inglett said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but for now it appears to be accidental, he said.

Two people and a dog escaped the fire, which also claimed the lives of a bird, a cat and six dogs, according to a family member.
