PIMA COUNTY, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Northwest Fire District is investigating the cause of a fire that almost completely burned a vacant home early Saturday morning, leaving only its block walls intact.

The district received several calls just before 4 a.m. from neighbors reporting heaving smoke and flames coming from the house in the 5000 block of West Camino de Girasol, which is just northwest of El Camino del Cerro and North Camino de Oeste, according to a Northwest Fire media release.

When the first responding unit arrived, the single-story house was already engulfed, and the roof had already collapsed. Crews had been able to see the smoke and flames from several blocks away. There was nobody outside the home who appeared to live there, according to the release.

There were no fire hydrants nearby, so crews had to call in water tenders to supply water. It took about 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control, according to Northwest Fire.

Once the fire was out, closer inspection revealed that the house was vacant with the exception of a few items, according to the fire district.

The cause is under investigation, and no damage estimate is available.
