TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Tucson Sector Border Patrol provided an update Wednesday afternoon on an incident that involved an agent opening fire on a suspected drug smuggler.
Agents were tracking a group of suspected smugglers Tuesday, April 19, near the village of Cowlic, which is on the Tohono O'odham Nation southwest of Sells, AZ, according to Paul A Beeson, the Chief Patrol Agent of Tucson Sector.
Beeson said one of the smugglers threw rocks at an agent, who then fired his gun twice at the suspect, who is a teen from Honduras. No names were released.
The agent is a 12-year veteran of the agency, Beeson said.
Three suspects are in custody and agents seized four bundles of marijuana weighing more than 200 pounds, according to Beeson.
This incident is the fourth agent-involved shooting in the Tucson Sector this year.
