DOUGLAS, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Douglas Police Department is investigating a criminal damage case in which 72 headstones at the Julia Page Cemetery, located in the 1300 block of Third Street, have been damaged or are missing their bronze name plate.
DPD public information officer Sgt. Jose Duarte said this incident may have been going on within the past few months but is just now being reported as families were visiting to either clean or check up on the family members' grave site.
"Douglas Police has only been able to identify about four or five victims at this point and we are currently working with City of Douglas Cemetery Staff and other personnel in an attempt to identify more victims or families that will be affected by the damages or thefts," Duarte said in a news release posted on the DPD's Facebook page.
Detectives are asking community members for help in identifying any possible suspect or suspects.
They're asking anyone with information to call DPD at 520-417-7550.
