One undocumented immigrant remains at large after escape from bus

CASA GRANDE, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Casa Grande police catch second escapee, Augusto Daniel Chavez-Sosa. A third escapee, identified as Heriberto Castellanos-Uribe remains at large, according to a recent tweet from the Casa Grand Police Department.

Multiple law enforcement agencies had been searching for two inmates who escaped from a bus late Tuesday night, May 24.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials said the incident happened on Trekell Road and Florence Boulevard in Casa Grande around 10 p.m.

According to investigators, three undocumented immigrants escaped through a ceiling hatch inside the bus when it was stopped at a traffic light.

Tucson sector Border Patrol officials said the bus was contracted out to transport detainees. Officials set up a perimeter around the area and caught one of them around 1 a.m. He has not yet been identified.

Only one remains missing Heriberto Castellanos-Uribe, 22.

Castellanos-Uribe, a national of Mexico, was arrested for suspected drug smuggling and was set to appear in court Wednesday, May 25, for his initial appearance.

The other man, Chavez-Sosa, is a national of Honduras. He was previously removed in 2015 and has no known criminal history.  He was captured by Casa Grande police on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 25.

The bus was from Ajo and was headed to the Casa Grande Border Patrol Station.
