MUSD to celebrate grand opening of Gladden Farms Elementary School

MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Marana Unified School District will soon be home to the newest, and one of the most advanced elementary schools in southern Arizona.

"Our school is not only innovative in design, providing the physical structure and furniture to enhance visible and collaborative teaching and learning, but it is also innovative in providing a comprehensive curriculum supporting learning that will prepare students for their future," said Nancy Paddock, school principal, in a recent release. "Our strong inspiring teaching staff embraces teaching methods which include programming, game design, and use of Chromebook mobile devices, giving students an understanding of how to utilize technology to create."

On July 20, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. there will be a ribbon cutting, followed by school tours for students, parents and members of the community.

Gladden Farms Elementary School is a state of the art facility and will be one of two Computer Science Immersion Schools in Arizona, that will integrate computer science with curriculum content in English language arts, math, science and social studies to create an 'engaging, interactive and fun learning environment where students will be provided the skills for the high growth, high demand jobs of the future.'

The school, pre-K to 6th grade will also offer programs and services that are provided by all other MUSD schools, including preschool, full day free kindergarten, before and after school care, gifted and special education, full-time Master level school counselor, health services, librarian, music, arts, physical education, and more.

Gladden Farms Elementary School was made possible by a 2014 voter supported capital improvement school bond and is scheduled to open August 8, located at the corner of West Tangerine Road and Gladden Farms Drive (11745 W. Gladden Farms Drive).

Dr. Doug Wilson, Marana Unified School District Superintendent, will be joined by MUSD Governing Board President John Lewandowski and Board Members, MUSD Senior Leadership, and Town of Marana dignitaries. Nancy Paddock, principal of school, will be present on July 20. This event is hosted in partnership with CHASSE Building Team, BWS Architects, and Winslow & Partners LLC.
