Armed robber takes phones, cash from Sierra Vista store

SIERRA VISTA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Nobody was injured in a robbery shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday at a Family Dollar store in Sierra Vista.

The robber – a man dressed in black and wearing a hood, brandishing a silver handgun – led two employees into a back office at the store at 4155 S. Highway 92, according to a media release from the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

The store was closed at the time, so no customers were inside, said Carol Capas, a CCSO spokeswoman.

The man then returned to the front of the store and took all the phones and cash, in an amount authorities are not disclosing. He went back to the office and got one of the employees to unlock the front door to let him out, then took the employee back to the office and told both employees to wait there for 30 minutes. They waited about three minutes before calling for help.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
