Body found near Benson; may have been dumped while alive

COCHISE COUNTY, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Cochise County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the possibility that a man who was suffering a medical event was dumped by the people he was traveling with and left to die.

Around 9:30 Saturday morning, the CCSO received a call about the body, which was about 300 yards onto the caller's property at the Triangle T Ranch on Dragoon Road, east of Benson. The body was in the driveway and covered in a sleeping bag, according to a CCSO media release.

The caller said the body appeared to be a man of black or Hispanic descent. Authorities found a photo ID near the body that indicated he's a 36-year-old man from Nayaert, Mexico.

Responders found no obvious signs of trauma, and the cause of death will be determined by the Pima County Medical Examiner, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities suspect the man suffered from a medical emergency while traveling through the area in a light-colored, newer-model GMC pickup truck that was seen entering the driveway around 11:30 p.m. Friday and leaving after about 3 minutes. They suspect the other occupants of the truck dumped the man, possibly while still alive, according to the release.

The sheriff's office is working with the Mexican consulate to notify next of kin.
