Families stranded by flooding on the south side
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A couple in Tucson says they cannot get into their home because it is surrounded by water.
While the water has gone down quite a bit, the homeowners are still left with plenty to clean up near South Nogales Highway and Old Nogales Highway, they can't even access their backyard.
"The property now is totally worthless. I probably couldn't even... if somebody came up here, I probably couldn't even do anything," said property owner Clyde Nichols. "Cuz it has no value anymore."
Nichols and several of his neighbors say they have been dealing with this for the past few days, and they say it happens almost every monsoon season. The flooding seems to come all from one wash located near where Pima County and the reservation meet.
Residents in the area have not been able to get through to their homes for the majority of the day, and many say in the past flooding like this has cost them thousands in repairs.
"Probably $15,000. That's just in fixing it. Not in all of my personal stuff. This time, I lost probably a $10,000 car in the back," said Billy Johnson.
Wayne Hodgson, who not only owns property, but runs an auto repair shop from the same area said " My daughter lives here...we've got everything in the... where am I going to go?"
They say they're going to continue to reach out to the county to help resolve this issue.
