Electrical fire nearly out by the time firefighters arrived

MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Northwest Fire District crews responded to a fire at an electrical substation in the area of Avra Valley Road near I-10, after several 911 calls about heavy smoke and flames and a possible building on fire.

Crews arrived on scene around 2:25 p.m. Monday, to find that electrical equipment inside the substation fence had been on fire, but had burned itself out prior to their arrival, according to a NWFD release.  There were no structures or equipment involved in the fire.

NWFD remained on scene until Tucson Electric Power arrived.  It is unknown if the fire affected any power services in the area.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is unknown according to the NWFD release.
