Pima Co. Sheriff's Dept. seeing spike in car break-ins on NW side
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Pima County Sheriff's Department is seeing a serious increase of reported car break-ins and larceny on the north west side of Tucson.
According to PCSD public information officer Deputy. Ira Sewell, the department has received around 30 reports in the past week.
On August 23, PCSD said home surveillance video near the 7700 Block of Casimir Pulaski caught a suspect in the car port of a residence, but as soon as he spots the camera, he takes off.
"Obviously this guy is scanning our neighborhood looking for whomever or whoever is an easy target," said Jocelyn Mehlsack, owner of the home surveillance video.
Sewell said some of the areas affected areas include the intersection of Ina and Thornydale Road, Thornydale Road and Cortaro Farms Road as well as Shannon and Magee Road.
"We would like to remind citizens to lock their vehicle doors regardless of the neighborhood they live in," said Sewell. "Refrain from keeping anything of value inside the vehicle."
Anyone with more information on these break-ins is urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
