Tucson police arrest suspect, accomplice in serial robbery case

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - With help from the U.S. Marshals and the Auto Theft Task Force, the Tucson Police Department arrested a suspect and an accomplice in a serial robbery case in the early morning hours on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

According to a recent release the suspect, identified as Jamar Roshaun Atkins, is also a suspect in over 15 additional cases beginning in late July, 2016. The most recent robbery happening on Aug. 21 at a Circle K at 2750 North Tucson Boulevard.

Atkins was arrested at an apartment complex in the 3700 block of East Bellevue Street on Wednesday morning, according to the release.  He surrendered to TPD without incident. In addition to Atkins, a woman was also arrested who may have been an accomplice. The woman is identified as Melissa Rose Harmsen.

TPD detectives investigating the case, had distributed photos of a suspect in an armed robbery, and received a tip on a possible suspect. Additional information was provided and a follow-up conducted, when detectives were able to identify Atkins as the suspect.

Several units from the K-9 Unit, SWAT, Operations Division West, Operations Division Midtown, Tucson Real-time Analytical Crime Center (TRACC), Air Unit, Auto Theft Task Force and the U.S. Marshals worked to locate and arrest Atkins and Harmsen.

Both Atkins and Harmsen were booked into the Pima County Jail. Atkins faces the following charges:  felony armed robbery, as well as an outstanding Department of Corrections parole violation; while Harmsen faces the following charges: facilitation to commit armed robbery.
