TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - More than 50 boxes full of medical supplies, personal items and non-perishable food are ready to be shipped to Haiti this week, according to Haiti Rebuilt, Inc.
The non-profit partnered with the Tucson Fire Department and Tucson Firefighters Association to host a donation drive for families affected by Hurricane Matthew earlier in the month.
The donations will be picked up by Convoy of Hope in Missouri before landing in Haiti, according to a release from HRI.
Mission of Hope will then receive the donations and add them to the organizations on-going effort to support the people who need in most.
Not all items donated in Tucson will make their way into the hands of Haitian families. The non-profit prioritized items that are needed more immediately, so any donations that didn't meet that threshold were donated to local organizations, according to
Clothes and household items went to Big Brothers, Big Sisters and perishable food was given to the Gospel Rescue Mission.
HRI collected nearly $2,000 in monetary donations as well, according to the release. Members of the non-profit would like to thank everyone who helped their cause.
