SAD UPDATE: Fire displaces 3 people, kills at least 2 pets

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A fire in a home near Park Place Mall on Friday, Oct. 21, displaced three people and took the lives of at least two pets.

A news release from the Tucson Fire Department said a dog and cat perished in the fire, one cat is missing and presumed dead and another cat survived.

The three residents, a woman in her 70s, another in her 50s and a man in his 50s, were not hurt. One woman was home, but unaware of the fire until a neighbor alerted her to it by pounding on the door.

Most of the damage was in the carport, but fire spread into the attic of the home in the 5800 block of East 18th Street.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause and origin of the fire.

The house will be condemned because of the heavy damage. Red Cross is assisting the family.
