STOCKTON, CA - The Tucson Roadrunners earned the first victory in franchise history in overtime by a 2-1 count Friday night in Stockton against the Heat.
Trailing 1-0 entering the third period, Tucson tied the game on Craig Cunningham's third goal of the season.
Cunningham took a pass from Eric Selleck in the high slot while backing up across the slot right to left and shot the puck back over the left shoulder of Heat goaltender Jon Gillies (28 saves).
In overtime, Roadrunners goaltender Marek Langhamer (43 saves) stopped a breakaway and a 2-on-0 before Brendan Perlini's wrist shot found the back of the net at 3:19 of the extra session.
Perlini's goal goes down as the first game winner and overtime game winner in franchise history, while Langhamer earns the first win.
Both teams came up empty on the power play, each going zero-for-five.
Tucson is right back on the ice Saturday night at 6 pm PT in Bakersfield against the Condors. The Roadrunners pregame show starts at 5:45 pm on flagship station KTZR with Tom Callahan.
