TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Authorities are investigating a fire that destroyed a bus in the transportation lot for Sunnyside Unified School District.

District officials are looking at several possible causes, from an electrical issue to the weather.

The fire happened at 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at the bus depot near Tucson Boulevard and Valencia Road. Someone driving by the lot saw smoke in the area and called 911.

Tucson Fire Department crews arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire before it could spread to other buses.

According to district officials, the 12-year-old bus is used to transport students with special needs and has low miles.

SUSD has another bus that is identical to the one that caught fire, and crews are taking that bus apart, looking for any issues.

The district tells Tucson News Now, the fire will not disrupt service for the students that ride that particular bus route.
