Southern Arizona honoring veterans with special events
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Southern Arizona honoring veterans with special events:
Gladden Farms Elementary will host a special assembly at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10.
U.S. Representative Martha McSally will be present, along with 35 Veterans, parents and family members. The program will include songs sung by the school's choir, and the distribution of personalized thank you notes for Veterans. Students will also have the opportunity to view military uniforms and other items used by military personnel.
Butterfield Elementary will host a special celebration honoring service men and women of the past and present at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10.
The program will include the presentation of the American flag by the color guard and special performances by the school's choir. Veterans, parents and family members are invited.
Ironwood Elementary will host a special 3rd grade choir performance to honor past and present servicemen and women serving in the armed forces. The performance is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 09.
Campuses and districts participated in #SupportOurBase by wearing Red, White and Blue on Thursday, Nov. 10
Warren Elementary School's annual Patriotic Program - Students honored the Veterans in their lives and sing patriotic songs.
Students from Sewell Elementary sang to Veterans at Villa Hermosa.
Lineweaver Elementary School Kindness Day (students engage in acts of kindness).
Sabino High School Wounded Warriors Project - Thursday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. National Honor Society Students will play a volleyball game against the faculty; all funds raised go to the Wounded Warrior Project
Sewell Elementary students sing to Veterans at the VA Hospital
University High School Veterans assembly at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15
Students have been collecting the stories of our Veterans, each student will introduce a Vet and tell his or her story. This is an incredibly moving event. The student's stories are being collected and will be submitted to the Library of Congress
Richardson Elementary School - Thursday, Nov. 10, at 9:30, the MPR and hallways will be festooned with hundreds of balloons and artwork by our students. Veterans from all of America's wars have been invited to attend as special guests. Soldiers and veterans will be greeted by two kindergarteners in full Marine dress uniform saluting them at the door. American symbol will be represented by, among other things, a student dressed in a genuine World War II naval dress uniform. It's going to be beautiful as well as meaningful.
Third graders from Holaway Elementary learned about the origin of Veterans Day and made patriotic windsocks that will be displayed at the VA. Each windsock will be given to a veteran to keep.
Legacy Traditional, is hosting a Veteran's Day Breakfast for parents, grandparents, and those who live near the school. It will be held Thursday, Nov. 10 at 8 a.m. There will be a special flag ceremony to honor our Veterans. Sons of the American Revolution will be providing the presentation of colors, students will sing, and a breakfast will be served to all our Veterans.
Life Care Center of Tucson is hosting a special event to honor our Veterans. On Friday, Nov. 11, at 10:15 .a.m they will honor veterans with a special ceremony, guest speaker, Major from Davis Monthan AFB, the Flowing Wells ROTC Color Guard presentation of the flag, U of A student who will sing the National anthem and then the pinning of our cherished Veterans.
