TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Tucson police arrested a man on Monday, Nov. 21, in connection with the shooting death of his wife the night before at an apartment complex on Tucson's east side.

According to police, 22-year-old King Yates was arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail for first-degree murder, misconduct involving weapons-prohibited possessor, and second-degree burglary.

He was arrested in a residence in the 2400 block of North Desert Links Drive.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Cassandra Yates, according to a news release from the Tucson Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Tanque Verde Apartments on Tanque Verde Road just after 6:45 p.m.

The 911 caller reported that a woman had been shot inside an apartment, and that the suspect had fled.

When officers arrived on scene, they found Cassandra Yates with obvious signs of gunshot trauma.

Despite medical efforts by TPD and the Tucson Fire Department, she died on scene.

Detectives determined the couple live at the same complex in a different apartment.

They had been visiting another resident when the shooting happened.

The resident stayed on scene and spoke with detectives.

King Yates left the apartment complex on foot immediately after the shooting.
