Tucson police arrest stabbing suspect

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Tucson police have arrested a suspect in a stabbing near Reid Park.

According to Tucson Police Department Sgt. Pete Dugan, 39-year-old Clayton Squires was arrested late Thursday, Dec. 8.

Squires was booked into Pima County Jail and faces the following charges: one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated assault with serious physical injury.

Dugan said Squires allegedly hit his victim in the head with a hammer. When the victim fought back, Squires then allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of knife wounds and serious head injuries.

The alleged assault happened Thursday at the victim's home in the 3300 block of East Camino Campestre.

Detectives are still investigating the case. It is unclear if the victim knew the suspect.
