NOGALES, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The fire in the Vista del Cielo area of Nogales is 75 percent contained, officials said. Crews will be watching it overnight to make sure there are no flareups.
Property damage was extensive, according to officials and 100 acres have been burned.
The fire started around 12:13 p.m. at a recycling company near Grand Avenue. Officials said when they got on scene, the facility was fully engulfed and tires and tractor trailers were burning.
Firefighters said they don't know what was inside the tractor trailers and are working to find that out.
"Our priority was, since the wind was shifting back and forth, our concern was the residential area on the right and communication towers nearby," said Nogales assistant fire chief William Sanchez.
By 3 p.m. the perimeter was secured by the U.S. Forest Service and everything that was spreading was contained.
Around 55 people, from the NFD, Rio Rico Fire Department, Nogales Suburban, U.S. Forest Service and Green Valley Fire Department, were all on the scene to help battle the blaze. Stateland, Nogales Police Department, Public works, and Unisource also assisted with the fire.
Officials said no one was injured in the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
