Skaggs said they were called to the scene, a mobile home in the 3400 block of North Romero Road, around 4:55 a.m.
"One neighbor reported hearing a loud pop noise which woke him up," Skaggs said in a news release. "He looked out his door to see his neighbors AC unit on fire and immediately called 911."
The man was found in a back bedroom and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Skaggs.
Skaggs said a firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
