TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Three Tucson area nonprofits received $45,000 thanks to the Tucson Federal Credit Union and its Community Partnership Awards on Tuesday, April 18.
According to a recent release the awards were donated to organizations whose charitable missions "transform lives of people in need and where a direct impact of the donation can be measured."
The three nonprofits are: the Erik Hite Foundation, which received the largest check for $25,000; and Youth On Their Own and Our Family Services, who each received $10,000.
TFCU is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a commitment to perform 80 Acts of Kindness. President/CEO, Susan Stansberry, said in a recent release, "Our goal represents 80 years of service to the community that makes us successful. We give back because we are grateful."
About the recipients:
The Erik Hite Foundation (EHF) was chosen because of their unique approach to satisfy a need for Law Enforcement and Emergency Services personnel. EHF began a Child Development Center, the first of its kind in the nation, with extended hours for parents whose service to the community goes beyond the traditional 9 to 5. With this child care service in such high demand, TFCU's $25,000 grant will help establish this new location.
Youth On Their Own (YOTO) is a dropout prevention program benefiting homeless youth by eliminating barriers to education, such as finding their next meal and daily survival. TFCU selected YOTO to receive $10,000 because if the increasing demand for these services in our community. Last year, YOTO served 1,588 students – an increase of 124 percent in five years. TFCU's donation will support YOTO's stipend program for 72 homeless youth by providing them with financial support while holding them accountable to maintain good grades and attendance.
Our Family Services offers many dynamic services, one of which is the New Beginnings program that serves over 700 homeless children, youth, and families a year. TFCU's $10,000 will support the Reunion House, where runaway and homeless teens are offered counseling, support, and often case management to repair relationships with family and get kids off the streets. The New Beginnings program also helps single mothers and families transitioning from homelessness to financial independence.
