UPDATE: Tucson police identify man killed in shooting near UA Tech Park
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Tucson Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a man, identified as 35-year-old Thomas Allen Dickinson.
According to a TPD news release, the shooting took place after an altercation between an on-duty security guard and Dickinson, in the desert northeast of the intersection of South Kolb Road and East Science Park Drive.
Officers arrived on scene around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, and spoke with the security guard, who told officers he had been involved in the shooting and was the one who called 911. He led officers to the desert area, where they found Dickinson with a gunshot wound.
Tucson Fire Department crews responded, but Dickinson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The security guard told officers an unknown man had thrown a rock at his marked security vehicle while he was stopped at the red light at East Science Park Drive. According to the guard he lost sight of the man, but managed to locate him again in the desert northeast of the intersection.
According to the security guard he fired a shot at the man after he picked up a large rock, hitting him once.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. According to TPD, no arrests have been made and no one else is believed to be involved.
