TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A woman and her young son died after being struck by a car in midtown Tucson on Wednesday, city police said.

The victims have been identified as Anna Mentzer, 37, and her 7-year-old son Ethan Mentzer.

The accident happened near East Pima Street and North Swan Road.

Sgt. Pete Dugan, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said the two were in a crosswalk when they were struck by a vehicle.

The TPD said it does not appear the driver, who stayed at the scene, was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The investigation is ongoing and no citations have been issued at this time.

Anna Mentzer died at the scene despite the efforts of the first responders. Ethan Mentzer was taken to Banner-University Medical Center where he later died.

Dugan said the victims had a bike, but it is unclear if one was riding it or if they were walking it across the street.
