TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - One man is in the hospital and another is in custody following a shooting on the east side of Tucson Friday, Oct. 20.

The shooting incident began around 6 a.m. at the Kachina Court Apartments in the 5200 block of East 29th Street.

Sgt. Pete Dugan, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said the victim was shot multiple times. The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but was later upgraded and stabilized.

According to TPD they stopped at another apartment complex to ask a man about the Kachina Court Apartments shooting.  Officers learned the man, identified as Hector Ravago, had a gun and that he had barricaded himself inside the apartment.

The TPD dispatched SWAT and a mental health team to the scene. By 1 p.m. Ravago had surrendered and was taken into custody.

Ravago's mother spoke with Tucson News Now, but declined to be identified. She was thankful that her son did not get hurt.

"I just thank god. I was praying so hard that he gave in. Just cooperate with them, the police officers. He did the right thing."  Ravago's sister was on the phone with her brother and was able to talk him into coming out of the apartment.

Ravago was taken into custody on a felony warrant for a probation violation.  However, Tucson police have connected Ravago to the earlier shooting and are adding charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a dangerous drug.
