TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - You can say goodbye to bringing in big bags to the movies. National theater chain Cinemark set a new limit on the size purse a person can bring inside. The size is now limited to 12x12x6.

"No more jumbo bags of chips," said Harriet Vincent, a Cinemark customer.

Does this new plan stop sneaky snacking or add customer safety?

It has become the latest debate from movie-goers around the country, after Cinemark announced large bags won't make the cut inside to catch the newest release.

Vincent explained, "I've always felt that they've discouraged you from bringing in your own goodies. I just resent paying $4 for a bottle of water."

The theater chain cited security concerns as their main reason for the new policy. This policy came a week after the most recent mass shooting in the United States and nearly six years since Cinemark saw their own mass shooting at a theater in Aurora, Colorado.

Anna Flores, who stopped by the Oro Valley Cinemark to watch Black Panther told Tucson News Now, "There's a lot of gun violence going on. I think it's a really good thing that they're starting be more aware of it -- the way people are starting to be more aware of their surroundings."

The 'big bag ban' took effect for moviegoers on February 22.

The chain also stated they have the right to look through your purse before entering.

Customers like Charlyn Black told us this is no surprise.

"They've already instituted that at other large venues so I find it appropriate in this day and age," said Black.

It does come with a price to those customers using bigger bags to sneak snacks in when headed to catch a flick on the big screen.

"The keyword is sneak, yeah, they weren't supposed to be doing that to begin with," Black explained.

Cinemark has six locations in southern Arizona.
