Tucson aviation facility to close, eliminate 413 employee positions

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Rockwell Collins has announced plans to close its facility on the east side of Tucson, eliminating more than 400 positions in southern Arizona.

In a statement issued Thursday, March 8 by Josh Baynes, Sr. Manager of Media Relations, the closure would go into effect in September.

FULL STATEMENT:

"Rockwell Collins has made the difficult decision to permanently close its Tucson, Arizona operations due to reduced demand for the Super First Class aircraft seating produced by the facility. The closure, effective Sept. 30, 2018, will eliminate approximately 413 full-time positions. Severance packages and outplacement services will be offered to affected employees, as well as opportunities apply for other job openings in the company where business is growing."

The manufacturing facility, located at 1851 South Pantano Road, produces Super First Class products available in first class suites of airplanes.

According to the company's website, Rockwell Collins is, "a leader in aviation and high-integrity solutions for commercial and military customers around the world."

The company produces flight deck avionics, cabin electronics, cabin interiors, information management systems, mission communications, and simulation and training, according to the website.
