NOGALES, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Two women were arrested in separate incidents over the weekend by Nogales Station Border Patrol agents, for attempting to smuggle drugs into Arizona, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release.
On Friday, March 9, agents checking a commercial shuttle van at the Interstate 19 Immigration Checkpoint near Amado, 41 miles south of Tucson discovered a 33-year-old Tucson woman with more than two pounds of heroin concealed on her body. The drugs were worth an estimated $32,000.
During a second incident on Saturday, March 10, BP agents again discovered a 18-year-old Nogales woman carrying drugs concealed on her body. According to the release the 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine were wort an estimated $2,000.
Both women were arrested and are now facing charges for narcotics smuggling.
