TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Tuesday is the start of a long hike for two women.

Sirena Dufault, a Tucson hiking expert and owner of Trails Inspire, and Liz Thomas, a nationally known "urban hiker" from California, will hike the Loop. They will begin March 13 and finish Saturday, March 17, at Pima County's Loop Completion Celebration at Kino Sports North Complex, 2817 E. Ajo Way.

Dufault said this has been a hike she has been planning for a while. She said when she found out the Loop was completed and the county was holding a celebration, she knew this was the perfect time.

Her goal with this hike is to show off the beautiful in what is right in southern Arizona's backyard.

"This is really going to highlight the things that make Tucson so wonderful," she said. "The parks and the arts and of course the food, and you know it is just a wonderful place to live. I have lived here since 1994 and I really wanted to show people why I love this place so much."

Dufault and Thomas will hike The Loop in segments, about 20 miles for the first four days. The last segment on Saturday will be a 4-mile hike starting at Augie Acuña Los Niños Park, 5432 S. Bryant Avenue and ending at the celebration at Kino Sports North Complex. It is at that point the public is allowed to join them but you must register here first:

City of Tucson Parks and Recreation is providing transportation back to Acuña Park that afternoon.

It won't be all walking for Dufault and Thomas, they will be meeting with county and local experts to learn more about different aspects of the Loop.

The women said they will also be post their updates and photos of their hike each day online, as will Pima County. You can follow along here:
