TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The staff at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA) will be moving into a forever home of their own next month.

After several months of construction, the new HSSA shelter will hold its grand opening on Saturday, April 7, with tours of the new facility, food and refreshments, as well as half-off all adoption fees.

"We have served the community for over 70 years and our current facility shows its age. It is time for our animals and HSSA family to have a new home that allows us to improve the lives, health and well being of the animals we care for," said Diana Cannon, Chief Development Officer.

The new facility is said to include green building practices, jumbo dog runs, several large off-leash play yards, a designated dog walking path, indoor and screened outdoor cat habitats, solar covered parking, and rainwater harvesting.

The grand opening event will be at 635 W. Roger Road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. More information about the opening can be found on their Facebook page.

During the transition phase, the HSSA's Spay and Neuter Clinic will be closed until April 9, and the adoptions center will be closed until April 2.

HSSA is a no-kill shelter and oldest nonprofit in southern Arizona. Since its start, more than 1,000,000 animals have been saved.
