TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Police are investigating a homicide near the University of Arizona on Tucson on Friday morning, April 6.

According to Sgt. Pete Dugan of the Tucson Police Department, a man in his 30s was found in the intersection of North Park Avenue and East Eighth Street, bleeding from stab wounds. That man has been identified as 33-year-old Gary Lavier. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

His sister was also found injured, police said, but it is unknown if she was also stabbed. Her condition is said to be not life-threatening.

Police say the man was involved in an altercation in a nearby alley with another man, and the sister was hurt when she came to his aid.

Park Avenue was closed between Eighth and East Ninth Streets because of the investigation.

Detectives are currently following up on leads in the case, but they are asking anyone with information to please call 88-CRIME. They can remain anonymous.
