TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - More than 300 Arizona National Guard troops will be helping the Border Patrol and Customs do their jobs at the request of President Trump.
The question is, why now? Former Presidents George W. Bush and Barrack Obama sent troops to the border when the Border Patrol was understaffed and illegal crossings were rising.
But now, those crossings are at their lowest level since 1970, and Border Patrol staffing is much better.
President Trump says these troops will stay until his wall gets built. But who knows when, or IF, that will happen? We don't need this to be an open-ended mission.
And we may need those troops for other missions.
Our leaders need to THINK ABOUT IT -- is this deployment really necessary?
