Tucson police arrest suspect in April 6 drive-by shooting

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Tucson Police Department is reporting that they have a suspect in the April 6 drive-by shooting in custody.

According to a TPD news release the suspect in custody is 47-year-old Anthony Fimbres. He was booked into the Pima County Jail on Monday, April 9 on the following charges: one count first degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of discharging a firearm at a residential structure and one count of prohibited possessor.

On the day of the incident, Friday, April 6 TPD received an additional call about a vehicle fire in the same neighborhood as the drive-by shooting.  Officers found a gold Toyota Sequoia on fire in an alley near East Kenyon Drive and South Sherwood Village Drive that was only a few streets from where 51-year-old Jesus Castro was shot.  According to TPD the vehicle matched the one involved in the drive-by shooting.

Detectives with TPD's Gang Unit learned that Fimbres had purchased the Toyota Sequoia just prior to the April 6 shooting.  On April 9 detectives located him and spoke with him about the shooting.

According to TPD detectives collected evidence at both scenes.

Additional suspects are believed to have been involved in the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information is asked to call 88-CRIME, they can remain anonymous.
