TUCSON, AZ - The last home match of the men's tennis regular season for the Arizona ended in a 4-0 defeat at the hands of No. 2 UCLA.
Prior to the match the Cats honored outgoing senior Shoti Meparidze and Trent Botha.
The Wildcats came out strong in doubles play, with Alejandro Reguant and Jonas Maier taking down the 11th-ranked doubles pairing in the nation by a score of 6-3.
The Bruins would rebound however, taking matches on courts one and three to edge out Arizona for the doubles point.
UCLA opened the scoring in singles play, quickly making it 2-0 thanks to a 6-4, 6-0 win by Maxime Cressy over Jonas Maier.
55th-ranked Keegan Smith rallied in a second set tiebreak against Filip Malbasic to make it 3-0 Bruins, and 81st-ranked Evan Zhu held off Aaro Pollanen 7-6(2), 6-3 to seal the match for the Bruins.
Igor Karpovets and No. 1 Martin Redlicki were battling in a third set when the match was called.
The Wildcats close out the regular season against Arizona State in Tempe on Saturday.
