Jeannette McCann Lopez

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A Tucson woman allegedly kidnapped her child during a supervised visit with the Arizona Department of Child Safety in January 2017.

The child was later found safe in Mexico and the woman, Jeannette McCann Lopez, was arrested on several charges.

Tucson News Now requested documents in the case to learn how Lopez was able to escape from an east-side library.

In a report from the Tucson Police Department, Lopez told the DCS employee she needed to change the diaper of her 1-year-old child.

Lopez and the worker met at the Wilmot Library because Lopez doesn't have custody of her daughter.

Lopez went to one bathroom and the supervisor went to another. During that time, Lopez allegedly left the library with her child.

TPD said it talked to Lopez's family and suspected she was going Mexico, where she may have family.

A friend of Lopez confirmed she had taken her child to Mexico.

A month later, Mexican authorities found Lopez and the child.
