TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - They didn't spend much time together, but Jim Becker knows a little bit about Joshua Hilaire, The main suspect in the May 6 homicide of Rosaura Hernandez, Hilaire's girlfriend.
Becker met Hilaire in late January.
According to Becker, Hilaire came to the door early one morning, with pretty much nothing. Becker and his roommate agreed to let the 21-year-old stay on the back porch area and allow him to come in the house to use the bathroom and take a shower. Becker called him nice, gentle and did not seem like a man that was a threat.
He also gave Josh as they called him, some help with a job and some advice when things weren't working out. Becker told Hilaire that he should go back to Florida and re-group.
Then came May 6, the day Tucson police were called to the Summit Ridge Apartments. There police found the body of Hernandez. Investigators told Tucson News Now that she had obvious signs of blunt force trauma and had died at the scene.
The news was shocking to Becker. He says, he saw Hilaire's picture and there was no question that it was his old roommate. Becker immediately told his other roommate. Then the two became worried, they feared that Josh would come back to their home because he knew them. So they began being more vigilant and started locking doors.
Two days after the alleged murder, Hilaire turned himself into police.
