Two men found in failed human smuggling attempt by a Tucson woman.

NOGALES, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Nogales Border Patrol agents arrested a 22-year-old Tucson woman after finding two males from Mexico hiding in the trunk of her vehicle.

On Monday night, May 14, agents working the primary inspection lane at the Interstate 19 checkpoint near Amado, referred the woman for a secondary inspection of her Ford Taurus. When agents opened the vehicle's trunk, they discovered the two men inside, ages 21 and 24.

Agents arrested the driver, identified as a U.S. citizen, for human smuggling and seized the vehicle. The men were processed for immigration violations.

As temperatures continue to rise, Border Patrol officials warn that Arizona's high temperatures can kill humans riding in the trunk of a car. Other dangers include carbon monoxide poisoning and the risk of serious injury or death from a vehicle collision.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials welcome assistance from the community. Citizens can report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol and remain anonymous by calling 1-877-872-7435 toll free. Reporting illicit activity could result in saving someone's life.
