The Vail School district has come up with a creative idea to help keep teachers – they are offering them a community of tiny homes.
The district is trying to make housing more affordable in a costly area. They're also trying to provide a sense of community to teachers.
But how many teachers will want these homes?
THINK ABOUT IT – if Vail and other districts want to help with housing costs, why not work with local apartment complexes or housing rental companies to offer subsides or rent discounts? And let's make sure teachers know about housing assistance programs like the federal government's "Teacher Next Door" program.
Ultimately, it still comes down to salaries. And even though our state is working on this, we still have a way to go.
