TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - In a day and age filled with technology, there's something extra special about a handwritten message.

Receiving one may take you back to the feeling you had on your sweet sixteen.

"That's the birthday most kids remember. I still remember mine," said April Cleveland, who lives in Tucson.

It's that unforgettable feeling that inspired April to start something special for her daughter's boyfriend. "He's a great kid. I couldn't ask for anyone better to be dating my daughter," she said.

Her daughter is dating Cameron Washburn, who was severely burned in a fire here in Tucson last month. He has spent his recent days in a Phoenix hospital for treatment. It's where he'll spend his birthday ten days from now, his sweet sixteen.

"That's rough. It takes a lot of you. It really does," she said.

Through these difficult times, April is collecting thousands of cards to deliver on his birthday. Her efforts have been shared across social media. She hopes they'll restore his spirits and remind him he's not alone.

"It's some sort of remembrance of all the tough stuff he went through and showing that he's a survivor. He can do anything he puts his mind to."

The goal is to collect 1,600 cards, but April says any amount will make all the difference.

Cards are asked to be sent to Cameron Washburn at 4391 W Mars St. Tucson, AZ 85741.
