House fire on Tucson's NW side claims one victim

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - One person died in a house fire on Tucson's northwest side in the early hours of Friday morning, June 22.

According to a news release from the Northwest Fire District, the fire happened at about 3 a.m. in the 5200 block of North Gerhart Road near Vereda del Coyotito.

When fire crews arrived, the house was heavily involved in fire and the roof was partially compromised. They attempted to locate any residents, but it wasn't until the fire was under control that the victim was found in a part of the home that had been significantly damaged by the fire.

Northwest Fire and the Pima County Sheriff's Department are investigating the cause of the fire, which is standard procedure for all fatal fires.

It took 24 firefighters about 40 minutes to get the fire under control.
