Search is on for suspect in grocery store robbery

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Robbery/Assault Unit detectives with the Pima County Sheriff's Department could use your help, as they search for a suspect in the June 6 robbery of a northwest side Safeway.

Deputies arrived at the scene at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 6 after receiving reports of an armed robbery at the Safeway at 7110 North Oracle Road, according to a PCSD news release.

They learned that a man had entered the store, walked to the liquor section and put two bottles of liquor in his front pockets. The man tried to leave the store, but was confronted by a loss prevention officer.

The loss prevention officer told deputies that the suspect stated "call the cops, I have a pistol and if you don't back off I'll use it."

According to the release the suspect was seen leaving the area on foot, heading westbound.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5-foot-6, weighing 130 to 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.  He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, blue denim shorts and gray tennis shoes.
