TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - 14 graduates walked across the stage this hot June afternoon at the Dunbar Center.
All have different families and different future plans. One thing they have in common, they all overcame something to get their GED.
Heriberto Fuentes is the valedictorian of the class of 2018 for Las Artes. Just eight months ago, Fuentes had been out of school for three months after having been to three different high schools.
Fuentes said traditional high school just wasn't really his thing. Then he got introduced and learned about Las Artes and that changed his career path.
He told Tucson News Now that it wasn't easy, but he made it. He is now a graduate of the school and is planning to enroll at Pima Community College to become a pharmacy technician.
His goal, to earn enough money as a tech, to save money and open up his own mechanic shop.
