WATCH: Dust devil rolls through Sierra Vista
SIERRA VISTA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A dust devil rolled through Sierra Vista Monday morning and it was caught on security cameras.
Brews Brothers Coffee, located on East Ramsey in Sierra Vista, shared the video with Tucson News Now.
The cafe's outdoor furniture was tossed through the air before crashing down in a heap of twisted metal and broken glass.
The wind kicked up around 11:30 a.m. and sounded like a freight train, according to Brews Brothers Coffee spokesperson Jessica Sariñana.
"Fortunately there were no customers or employees any near the path," Sariñana said in an email.
Dust devils are fairly common in Arizona and are rarely a threat to people.
They form when a column of warm air rises, starts to rotate and picks up dust and debris.
They may look like tornadoes but dust devils form from the ground up and under clear skies.
The width of a dust devil can be from 10 to 100 feet with an average height of about 650 feet.
