SAHUARITA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The teen cyclist hit by a vehicle near Sahuarita earlier this week has died, according to city police.
In a news release, the Sahuarita Police Department said Mason Taylor was declared dead by hospital staff early in the morning Thursday, July 5.
A second release from the SPD came out hours later. Authorities then said that while the 15-year-old Mason was still intubated, the hospital did not change its decision about his death.
Intubation is when a tube is inserted down, or through, a patient's throat. It is often used to hook a person up to a breathing machine.
A member of Mason's family told the SPD they have received "numerous unwanted phone calls" and would like privacy.
The accident happened Tuesday, July 3 near Old Nogales Highway and Quail Crossing Boulevard.
The driver stayed at the scene and there are no pending charges, the SPD said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 911 or 520-344-7000.
